  • Bravo Ben! I am a young bass student and I'am hoping to join one of the top Conservatories in England in a couple years. I have only been playing classical bass for 3 or 4 years but players like you really inspire me to get the best out of this gorgeous instrument. Have you ever tried Botessinis Elegy in D Major or Reverie? Both amazing pieces that I would love to hear you play. Keep up the brilliant work :)

  • @tomorocko thank you for the comments. I am very happy that my playing inspired you, I hope to post more videos in the future and I will keep you in mind for the Elegy.

  • Wow! I've never heard a bassist play this so well. Very, very beautiful. I like how your sound and playing aren't rough at all, it's very delicate. Awesome trills, too.

Is that a light bow? It looks light.

  • @JupiterAdept thanks its a pretty light bow but I would say it is pretty standard. Thanks for the comment.

  • Great great great! You really got that "Baroque vibes" in you ;)

Very good technique, from a double bassist myself.

  • wow.... u are really good! such performance

  • good work. Your method seems fit for Bach. Better than most cellists I've seen. May I ask where you got that bass. It seems lovely.

  • Great playing! I used this piece to audition at the Oberlin conservatory of music and at Indiana this spring. I look forward to becoming as good as you!

  • what peice did you play to get into juliard?

  • @bshldgbass @bshldgbass Glad to hear it. I don't know if there's anything worthwhile on my channel, but there are some decent videos of my friend's junior recital, which I was a part of, and you might enjoy those. If you find yourself interested, search for Brett McConnell's Junior Recital- I'd be the guitarist in those groups.

  • Speaking as someone who's not typically entertained by baroque music, as well as someone who is unfamiliar with this material, I really enjoyed this. The few flaws that caught my ear were nothing particularly egregious in my opinion- I'm a jazz musician, and I really take after the idea in jazz that sometimes the flaws are what makes a performance special- and you played with enough nuance to give the piece character. No real criticism from me; always a pleasure to hear a good musician. Cheers!
