Some pictures trying to show how to make a fipple-less, or rather an exo-fipple, low tech whistle from a PVC tube. For dimensions, tuning and lots of "how to-s" se Guido Gonzatos excellent page at http://www.ggwhistles.com/howto/index.html
R Jay has made an excellent, detailed instruction for a more sophisticated version on http://rjaysplace.com/exofipple/

The tune is called "När barnen mister både mor och far", played in the oldfashioned scale of the härjedalspipa, http://www.harjedalspipan.se/english.html
This scale has some quarter tones, so it will sound out of key to modern, 12tet trained ears.

You can hear another exo-fipple whiste in G major in my clip "All my trials"

  • LOL OK THANK YOU VERY MUCH.IM GOING TO PLAY AROUND WITH PVC TODAY

    WISH ME LUCK

  • @waleedjacobs Good luck! Let us hear the result :-)

  • That's similar to how I make Native American style flutes outta PVC. The difference is that instead of one hole, I drill two about 3/4 of an inch apart and stick the plug in between them, after cutting it to fit. I file the space between them flat. I make the little plastic sliver fit flush with the actual pipe so there's no air leaks except the stream aimed at the sound hole. It covers the hole nearest to the mouthpiece. It's a tad more complex, but I like the way it sounds.

  • @coyotecrow4 Yes, that is true, it is similar to a NAF.

  • Thanks for the idea . Made a few Native American Style flutes and been thinking on a penny whistle . Going to turn the lathe up and get a few blanks then see what happens with wood !!

  • @waleedjacobs It tends to be more trial and error than anything. You're much better off using the instructions put in this video, or look for another. It's just not something I can convey well via typed messages.
