1968 Ford Torino GT (390)

very nice car, the first year for the Torino name, yet this car was still basically a Fairlane, the Torino was the more upscale model, while the Fairlane name was put on the lower level models, this one has the nice 390, thus it has lots of get up and go, also i would imagine it has the 4 speed manual, but it might have the 3-speed, overall this is a spot on car, and is a nice example of a '68 Torino GT and this model also takes you back to the days when the Torinos ruled the tracks in Nascar, and it also appears to be very stock, which is always nice to see sometimes, also it appears the Fastback was the most popular body variant for the '68 Torino GT, with a production number of 74,135 which easily doubled sales over the hardtop sales which where 23,939 and only some 5,310 convertible Torino GT's where built in '68, the same repeated in 1969, also if you read the further reading links you will find all kinds of info like production numbers and specs and reviews on the particular car or generation of car in the video,

  • Hey Brent; you don't see many of those around anymore. I think there is one running around town but not as nice as that one.

  • yep they sure are getting rare, even more so would be the Mercury Cyclones, i think the lack of cult status like Mustang has put cars like this '68 Torino in the rare category, as there is no real aftermarket for them, and no reproduction that i know of, thus these Torinos and Cyclones are on there own, and i am guessing would be a trick to restore, that factor swayed me towards a 73-79 Ford truck, as i can almost build a new truck from the aftermarket and reproduction parts out there! :)

  • WOW! i've got one just the same over here in the UK. never seen another that color before. mines got after-market 15" TT2's, but apart from that it's like looking at my car! i love these cars, getting really rare, that one looks fantastic! of course i am a bit biased! ;-)

  • well thanks for the comment, and there rare here as well, i can only imagine how rare they are in the UK, i am always thrilled to see Youtube videos of big American cars and trucks in the UK, and Europe, as they look so out of place amongst the Smart-cars....Dumb-cars, lol lol and all the other Euro cars that are the complete opposite of these American classics, ah well thanks for sharing and commenting, and watching! :) and glad you liked the video!

  • I owned two '68 Torino GT fastbacks and my Dad owned one he purchased new in '68. Dad's and my white one had 302's and my maroon one had a 289 engine. Dad's was black with a metallic gold stripe w/ a black bench seat. Mine were white with a red stripe w/ maroon bench seats w/ factory AC and maroon with a white stripe w/ maroon bench seat . All had C4 automatic transmissions. Wish I had it back. A few years ago I found it and it was being restored as a replica of Buddy Baker's stock car.

  • thanks for commenting, and thanks for sharing! and all your Torino's sound like they where really nice cars, and its too bad there all sold, also if you want you can simply subscribe to my channel to stay up to date, also i will be posting many more videos of classic cars and you never know what i will post, and i will be posting updates on my own project '77 F-150 swb 4x4, so stay tuned,

  • Love the 390 Cobra Jet

  • I love the color and the stripe. Very cool!

  • i love it

  • I only know of 5 here in the UK. Only 2 of those are big block cars. Mine is a 390/C6/9 inch car but I've recently fitted a 445 stroker kit and some other engine goodies to restore the fun factor. Ok, she drinks premium unleaded like heck, but boy is it fun! I'll never sell it, it's just so rare and such a 'feel good' car. I could never replace it. Keep up the good work!

  • A friend bought a 79 Ford truck in good original shape the XLT with all the chrome and plush interior. He also has a 77 Olds cutlass 2 door.
