@iSparkettei Once you fix the male, the drop in testosterone causes the barbs to diminish though. They have an interesting process. And the female doesn't even ovulate until the male mates with her enough times: the endorphins released in response to the pain build up and when they hit a high enough point, the eggs are released. Often it only takes once, but sometimes they have to mate several time to achieve it. Kitties are sadomasochists, just because it hurts doesn't mean they don't enjoy it.

@iSparkettei Well, yeah, but the males still have barbs and it does hurt at the same time, regardless of how much they enjoy it. Not all of them enjoy it so much though. I've seen the queen beat the hell out of her mate afterward because it hurt more than it felt good to finish. It is definitely not some horrible thing for most of them, they enjoy it, they just have to produce more endorphins than we do because they deal with being a bit torn up inside in the process.
