Robam Reamker Part 2: Hanuman and Sovan Macha

The Cambodian Royal Classical Ballet performs in France.

The Reamkea is the Khmer version of the Sanskrit epic, the Ramayana.

Hanuman's army begins construction of the stone bridge to Langka, which disturbs the watery realm of the golden fish/mermaid Sovanna Maccha (Neang Sovan Macha), who orders her mermaidens to dismantle the bridge. The monkeys capture the mermaids and Hanuman goes in to investigate the problem. Hanuman spots Sovanna Maccha and tries to capture her, but she just keeps swimming along. Eventually Hanuman is able to knock her down, angering her. Hanuman comes to realize that he has fallen in love with the mermaid queen. Hanuman is able to woo Sovanna Maccha and convince her to stop interfering with construction of the bridge.

I was able to do a very rough translation of the subtitles. But I must warn you, I'm hardly a n expert in French, or the source text. Some of the original meaning is likely lost.

Oh well, here goes: Hear me, I want to take you by my side. I have never seen such a beautiful siren. Don't be a tease, don't flatter me, you'd be playing with your life. I want to hold you, and kiss you. The siren fiercely fends him off, but Hanuman jumps atop her and they kiss.
