Let's see, there was Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Saul Bass, Jimi Hendrix, Bernard Herrmann, Picasso,Alfred Hitchcock and Coltrane.................all innovators and one of a kind. I know I missed some (so don't get mad at me). These giants will live on for decades!!!

@Bugera369 1 His later stuff you hear him use two notes at once a lot.
2 I think its "I Want to Talk About You" off of Soultrane.
-
@thenamesfrancisco well he was an addict... one in recovery if you will... You can abstain from drugs and still be an addict... Once addicted a narcotic for instance one can usually not use said narcotic drug again (and usually other similar substances again without picking up where they left off. Coltrane would more than likely attribute his finding of the god of his understanding to his kicking of his heroin habit... not his own self control.
-
@Helslinky no he wasn't. he did heroin for awhile, but ended up quiting. cold turkey. In fact he continued to play in a band with people that were users, and was able to have enough self control to never go back to that habit. Pretty unbelievable. True story.

1, Where can I hear Coltrane playing two notes at once? I think that'd be an interesting thing to hear.
2, What's the ballad at 1:00?

He was an addict.

Some of my favorite Coltrane recordings were those that he made for Prestige. As I type this I'm listening to a CD of African/Brass, his first recording on Impulse. After recording briefly for Blue Note and Atlantic, John spent the rest of his career with Impulse, ABC's Jazz subsidiary label, throughout the 1960s.
