On atariage forum I read Allas needed some music for his home-made computer game. So I made this for him. I hope he likes it. I composed this on my piano but then I arranged it on the Chaos Music Composer. I love that program on my atari computer.

Don't forget this is an early 80's computer, so don't expect the highest music quality!

  • hi, did you used a midi interface to connect your keyboard to you atari 800xl?, this program can be used with midi ? i love atari 800xl, well done !!! bye

  • No it is not with midi. I can understand why you think that (because of the picture I show of the 5.25" sleeve)

All music is created with patterns, which you have to 'type' on the XL keyboard. The program is Chaos Music Composer. It is not the best music editor, but it's the only one I can use, and I got it original, which gives a special feeling for me.

  • Very nice tune. It's one of those that keeps lingering in my mind. Question though:

Was using CMC a concious choise made to minimise CPU load, or is it simply the only/best program you have?

In my humble opinion, it might have sounded a bit better with the Black Magic Composer, using drum samples.

  • I love CMC. I don't like sampled sounds. And when I wrote this music, the purpouse was to build it into a game. So there was not enough CPU load too, to use digitised sounds.

I agree: Black Magic Composer has a few nice and famous tunes, but when I would switch for another composer or RMT, MPT or TMC would be a better choise for me!

  • Sexy Dutch accent.

  • My accent is just as sexy as my Atari is. ;)

  • I didn't want the music to end...

  • outstanding! i still have all my old atari 8 bit stuff. i wrote maybe 100 tunes on CMC. IF you wanna hear them, let me know. cheers! I got most 8 bit machines, and xl/xe the best. Good to c others still interested in this stuff.

  • Oi! Yay! Erm... Well, for one, what woul you see as the best config to get the most range out of RMT? (frequency wise, but still also the best usable?)

  • Yes, that's me. BTW. Monday is a cover from amiga mod. Feel free to ask :)

  • By the way, will this be in the next ASMA release?

  • I couldn't agree more. By the way... Your name seems familiar... Are you the Tatqoo that composed the RMT classics, Monday, Ramaja, Byzex, etc??? If so, may I ask you for some help on using RMT? :-D

  • Agreed, when it's to be built into a game, the less load, the better. Still, might be an idea to make a BMC tune out of it, for example for play during the menu, or other parts that do allow for the higher CPU load. Besides, I'm curious how it would sound in BMC. :-) RMT is way cool, since it uses Stereo, I haven't been able to get anything real decent out of a music editor myself, but I'm trying. MPT and TMC are unknowns for me, although I probably have them somewhere. :-/
