thats awesome for 2 years old!, Im 13 now and doing allegro but when I was 12 (half a year ago) I could hardly handle QBasic lol, I also love what TV shows you must have had to watched at 12 years old to come up with all japanese names lol, mysteries of the world, right?

It is not impossible to learn C++ to start with, i am using both C++ and VB, because i don't knw what i like the best, just keep learning the basics, don't think in games yet, just think like learning to make small programs, then if you learn fast or slow when you feel ready try make a text based game or a little tictactoe or tetris etc. and move slowly up :). thats what i am doing. And feel free to take sometines breaks for 1day to a week .

I wish i had the games still that I programmed when I was young, no bitmaps for me then, QBasic + lines and circles, it was truly pathetic. Oh and 5 and a quarter inch disks lol. At least all the different flavours of basic give enough grounding in logic and stuff to people learning them, I don't regret starting out with qb, but I have to admit with the tutorials and relatively cheap books available now c++ is the best choice for new developers. Nice vid as always reminded me where i started :)

I used it for a total of about four years. It's far from the best choice for game programming. I don't even think I'd use it to make database, either.

If you think VB sucks, then you've probably not been using VB for that long. VB is capable of more than you think.
Just because it's BASIC doesn't mean it sucks ass.

Really, if they think they want to be a game programmer I would suggest C++ as a first language. Visual Basic was mine, and it took years for me to ween myself from it, and I'm better for it. Now I'm having trouble getting myself to quit using Allegro and moving on to OpenGL/SDL, blah.
Some teachers at my uni are learning Python/Pygame, but I... I don't know. I think I just hate how anything not-C++ looks.
Hahaha, did you study Japanese? This is funny. Especially, how resentful you seem towards your old ideas.

@11889music Yeah, I used to study Japanese. I just abhor the way I named everything in Japanese... Kind of like when you hand a kid a video camera, they see fit to use every filter effect their is, instead of trying to produce a good video. :P
I also worked with a guy in web-development who would name all the servers and directories after Bleach characters/items (So: Long Japanese names like "Zanpakuto" that only him and I could spell & pronounce). Was annoying...
