EUX.TV analysis of the EU-Russia summit that took place in Khanty, Siberia, on Friday.

From the EU's official announcement:

2008-27-06, Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia

The second day of the EU-Russia Summit, which started on the 26 june in Khanty-Mansiysk, Siberia, began with a Plenary session. The delegation of the European Comission consists of the President of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso, Comissioner for External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy Benita Ferrero-Waldner and Comissioner for Trade Peter Mandelson. Javier Solana, the Secretary-General/High Representative for common foreign and security policy of European Union, is also a participant of the EU-Summit.
The EU-Russia Summit on 26 and 27 June 2008 -- is the first with President Dmitri Medvedev.

The Summit sees the launch of negotiations for the new EU-Russia Agreement for which the mandate was adopted by the EU Council of Ministers on 26 May 2008. The new Agreement will cover results-orientated political co-operation, the perspective of deep economic integration, a level playing field for energy relations based on the principles of the Energy Charter, closer relations in the field freedom, security and justice, and a mutual opening of the educational and scientific systems. The new agreement will build upon the current four Common Spaces, which are: Common Economic Space; Common Space of Freedom, Security and Justice; Common Space of External Security and the Common Space of Research and Education.

The Summit also looks at issues of global concern, such as the stability of financial markets, the rise of Sovereign Wealth Funds, climate change and global warming, energy security and the current food crisis. This is an oppotunity for the EU and Russia to compare assessments of and approaches to these developments, as well as to see what scope there might be to work together more closely.
Khanty-Mansiysk was founded in 1930 and is an administrative centre of Khanty-Mansi Autonomus okrug and an oil production town in Russia. It is located on the Irtysh River, 15 km from its confluence with the Ob. The population as of the 2002 Census was 53,953.

1-Not gonna happen (Besides Russia can just shoot of European gas).

2-Seriously doubt it they are going join, but we will see.

    3-Not gonna happen

4-Too bad, decisions will still be made by them.

  • Russia should join EU. Europe is a Christian club. not a zionistic or an Islamic one.

  • Turkey is no Europe.....

  • When the EU has it's own army ( and it IS coming ) and Turkey joins the EU...the EU army will be bigger than that of the US !

By then,Russia,Syria and Iran will be on the EU's borders.

I am sure that the (un-elected) EU President and Council will then tell us which country to attack. Trust them !

« To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history « .

    ( President Barack Obama, January 20,2009 ).

  • it's still better than anything EU did, as they can't even agree on common international policy. Besides US is in position of defending Europe since 1945, so nothing really changed.

and all those plans and theories about NATO and Russia are just speculations.

  • 0% EFFICIENCY OF PATRIOTS:

On April 7, 1992 Theodore Postol of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Reuven Pedatzur of Tel Aviv University testified before a House Committee stating that, according to their independent analyses, the Patriot system had a success rate of below 10%, and perhaps even a zero success rate. "There is little evidence to prove that the Patriot hit more than a few Scud missiles ... during the Gulf War, and there are some doubts about even these engagements."

  • VENOM:

The benefit of Polish 'interceptors' is that (i) US pays excuberant amount of money to corrupt Poles on top to host 'em, (ii) and to US defence contractors, (iii) it is totally useless as defence but gives good chance of 1st strike (just change w-heads), and a threat, (iv) it moves a place of conflict to Polish soil away from DC, (v) it proves to Russians that EU and NATO are blocks against them. They will demand a right for unannounced inspections, and will wack it out when denied.

  • Post communist countries can do whatever. It's the tendency of putting NATO troops and weapons around Russia's border which is concerning. Just watch the West worrying all about energy dependency from Russia and not at all about Georgia's attacking Ossetia. Georgia is as important to West as the oil pipeline going through it. Georgia is being played, so is Poland. How about Russia deploying S-300 in Cuba to protect US from Iran? USG will piss boiling water, but its OK to do it to others.

  • It's on the Internet, so, everyone either knows it or has access to that information, but the radar as powerful as one being planned is an overkill for Patriots. 10 Patriots will not protect Europe, but the fact of their placement this close to Russia means they are against Russia. They definitely change things and Russia needs to address the change as if missiles of other nature are going to be installed. USG is notorious for its dishonesty -- "WMDs are in Iraq," "I am not a crook,"etc ...

  • The main aim of this misses there, I think is to finally separate Central Europe from Russian influence. And now when things get worse for Russia, they try desperate moves. To all people who live in EU and USA: this is for our benefit, as it expands our sphere of influence and makes sure that Russia won't rise up again against us. So think!!!!
