Check out Island Rock in Plainview for a cool indoor rock climbing experience. Rock Climbing is for all ages and strength levels. It is not only an amazing body workout, but, more importantly, works to strengthen your focus, confidence and strategic skills.

If you can climb up a ladder then you can climb at an indoor rock climbing facility. Climbing is a sport that you get progressively better at with practice and most importantly, perseverance.

So how do start rock climbing? Island Rock starts you out with a belaying lesson. Climbing is a sport that requires two people unless you are just bouldering (the video demonstrates people who are bouldering). When belaying, the climber has a rope tied to their harness which goes over a steel bar at the top of the wall and then runs back down to their partner on the ground. The person on the ground is called the belayer who is responsible for ensuring the climbers safety.

I was initially surprised at the number of kids involved in this sport. But after seeing the amazing personal development and fitness skills that a child can develop by rock climbing, I totally get it! My 7 year old son came down to Island Rock with me and I couldnt get him off the walls! Check out the video to learn more about some of the great rock climbing programs for children and the inspirational coaches who are making it all happen!
