April 5, 2009. Starting attempt #18 for the Slemp Rotary Valve prototype. Previous attempts were largely unsuccesful due to a number of vacuum leaks and (primarily) a faulty carb. In this test, the engine demonstrates consistent firing on every cycle, although it does not achieve enough power to run without the starter motor. A tear down of the rotary valve head showed that a small section of gasketing had torn away allowing exhaust gases to blow back into the intake. This prevented enough fuel/air mixture to be drawn in for compression. This problem was due to the small gasket cross section of the prototype design at the intake port, however it is easily repaired with a new lower backing plate to allow a 3X improvement in the size of the gasket cross section. In fact, this part is already on order. All other parts seemed to hold up very well under combustion, even with using starting fluid which is quite explosive. A new test is anticipated in approximately one month.
cool idea, scrificial power loss off valves is an important issue no body seems to be wrking on in big industry

why did you even post this if it didn't run. but still that's pretty awesome to see that people are actually making these kind of engines.
