@TheThedawnishere1 I'm pretty sure i remember it being a personal song, about the band. They had one foot on the gas, going full throttle to get it going, living by the moment when it was first starting up. And one foot in the grave, if it failed they were pretty much done for. Least that's what i read somewhere at some point, wresting the meaning from their songs is one of my favorite parts about Streetlight Manifesto.

I had a tiny fragment of this song stuck in my head, spent a solid 15 minutes trying to come up with what song it was. Worth it though.

The subject of the song sounds a lot more like stability and structure in a life than religion specifically. Religious imagery just kinda makes it more poetic.
What I'm hearing from the song is eschew the shackles of society and live the life you want in your heart. One foot on the gas, living full speed, and one foot in the grave, understanding exactly what you're doing and ready for the places it might take you
