An overview of the game Repton by Superior Software, played on an Acorn Electron computer.

Lazy Game Reviews Quickie #1

These LGRQ videos are a break from my "full length" reviews to simply show more arcade-like games and give my opinion on the game and how it plays. The goal is to do this in around 3 minutes for each game, unscripted and unrehearsed.

  • There were loads of Repton games. I was never very much into them; I preferred Bonecruncher, a similar game but more interesting.

You should review more Electron games if you have many; almost nobody ever mentions them on Youtube.

  • @TheLoonwolf I do hope to review some more in the future! I also have some BBC Micro stuff in the works, both gameplay/commentary and full reviews. I love these Acorn machines.

  • Try Superplex or supaplex on average ms dos pc. It should work good on 386 configuration. Preety much the same rules but waay more entertaining and enjoyable

  • @PituDitu I've been getting a lot of requests for Supaplex recently, so a review may just be incoming in the somewhat near future :)

  • Awesome review, always have wanted an Electron.

  • Boulderdash is a knock-off of The Pit arcade game by Centuri.

So too is Repton, but Repton is a much more intelligent and challenging game compared to those two.

    Thanks for the review phreakindee!

p.s. You should check out the BBC Micro version of Repton. The graphics are a lot larger and the screen scrolls. It's great!

  • It is a really thoughtful game and was one of the highlights of the BBC micro and is similar but very different to boulderdash. Brilliant

  • @RandyAndyTandy I agree, i played entire series of Repton at BBC Micro, and really loved it

  • One of my all time favourite games!!! loved it!!

  • First game that comes to mind - Net Yaroze, Rocks n Gems.

    Second - Mr Do, Atari.

  • I remember playing this when it first came out as a kid. There was a competition in the UK, when you completed it, you got a password and were meant to get an amazing prize if you wrote to the people who made the game. Anyway, it was rock hard, i ended up competing it eventually so I wrote to the company that did the competition to say i did it and they wrote back saying I had to do it without losing a life lolz! ..think i died about 100 times while doing it.

  • I started gaming aged 6 on an Acorn Electron! I think the first game I played on it was a Mr Men game. I played the Repton games for ages, and are about the only games I really remember on that system.

  • I spent more of my childhood playing this game! lol

  • @phreakindee I hope someone does a walkthrough of the Electron version of 'Last Ninja 2'; I'm very close to completing it, but have been stuck for a very long time.
