FROM WIKIPEDIA

"Angel of the Morning" is a popular song that has been recorded numerous times, and has been a charting hit single for several artists including Juice Newton, Merrilee Rush, P.P. Arnold, Olivia Newton-John, The Pretenders/Chrissie Hynde, Dusty Springfield, Mary Mason, Melba Montgomery, and Billie Davis.

Written and composed by New York-born songwriter Chip Taylor, "Angel of the Morning" was originally offered to Connie Francis to sing, but she turned it down because she thought that it was too risqué for her career.[citation needed] The song was next offered to Evie Sands, who recorded it for Cameo-Parkway Records in 1967, but the record label went bankrupt, stranding the song in limbo. A representative from publishing company April-Blackwood then pitched the song to Memphis producer Chips Moman and singer Merrilee Rush. The song was subsequently recorded by Rush and The Turnabouts, and it became a #7 hit on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart in June 1968.[1] Rush received a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary-Pop Vocal Performance, Female.

  • Bravo! This is my favorite of yours so far, very heart-fealt, your voices go together well too, were these vocals recorded at the same take?

  • like I said you hav a good and discerning ear. This and By My Side by my friend CO is the best mixed vocal. Don a long time ago on a cheap tape just for kicks. new nothing about recording. My other Fav with her is sometimes and by my side.Ill send the latter in case you haven't heard it. I need this kind of voice to do harmony with. Have not found a suitable one yet.

  • ps same take.

  • Male and female harmony brings out the sadness of the song

  • I just pasted the words into the information section. Funny as much as I have sung this song I never really looked into the words that much. I guess it's about someone saying goodbye to their lover because the lover left them? (Is a correct?)

As always appreciate your insightful comments and looking in.
