King Malachi Street - more commonly known as Mel Street left us on Oct 21, 1978. His 43rd birthday. Mel only did 2 appearances on national televsion. This performance from THAT GOOD OLE NASHVILLE MUSIC from 1977 is classic. You'll see the now well known Nashville musicians, Mike Johnson on steel, and Lester Earl Singer on guitar behind Mel. • another one of my top ten favorites ever!! got to agree with daftacktwo......jerry's version not even close. george strait's version pretty good, but not as good as Mel's.....

  • @daftacktwo. You've got to be kidding me. I listened to Jerry Tackett's (George Strait) cover. He couldn't tote Mel's guitar case.

  • What a treat! Mel was country! I've never seen any of his live performances. What a tragic story. Oddly enough I was going to school in Bluefield when he was at his peak but I wasn't into country music at the time. Thanks for posting!
