Here's what the N64 test cart does. The tiny red dot you see near the middle of the screen is just the camera. I should have put something over it. And of course the flicker and stuff you see isn't really there in person. It's just your classic TV/camera sync issue.

And finally, the part where it says there will be vertical yellow stripes really does have yellow stripes but for some reason it came out white on the recording.

  • can I have if

  • Sure, check your mailbox. It's on the way!

  • Where'd you get that? Please tell me!

  • I worked for an authorized Nintendo/Intellivision/Atari warranty center for a few years. I also own the NES, SNES, Game Boy, and Intellivision test carts and the NES and SNES test stations. Most of those devices can be viewed in videos posted here by others.

  • Interesting. What's that room behind the words? It looks like some kind of lab...One day, I hope to have a game tester (Gamecube?)

  • Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I have a GameCube test disc as well. Not to mention a bunch of other goodies, such as 8 Nintendo binders of service manuals and 'insider' information. And I have a test box made by Nintendo that is essentially the guts and fronts of two NES controllers mounted to a black enclosure. One day, after I finish moving house and setting up, I'll make some more videos to post. I have all kinds of gaming rarities and goodness.

i have one of these carts as well. i got it in a ebay auction for free the guy selling through it in. i use it to test the equipment it sure makes things alot easier for ebay selling. of course i handle it with great care.

  • Tilt it...

  • ROM plz?

  • Ahh so that is what it actually did. :) thanks for showing!

  • @Draknfyre Okay. And the cart uses the image of that controller because this was "Ultra 64" test equiptment when the controller design was not finalized.

  • @PacMan1096

I understood what you mean. But what I was saying was the sliding analog "stick" shares nothing in common except both are round.

That kind of design, a flat, sliding "stick" goes back to the NES Max. But that was digital, and not analog.

  • @Draknfyre I believe you've mis-understood what I'm trying to say. I wasn't trying to say the anolog slider idea came from the N64 but the 3DS "circle pad" resembles the top of the prototype N64 anolog much like how the nunchuck controller looks like the center prong on the N64 controller. That's what its design was based off of.

  • @PacMan1096

The circle slider isn't a new thing. The PSP and other systems have had a flat analog stick before, Nintendo didn't "reuse" the idea from the prototype controller. The stick was taller, the stem thinner, and the top larger, concave, and smooth. The circle discs on the 3DS, and PSP and other systems don't share anything other than the fact that they are round.

It's interesting that the cart uses that image.
