Early on Monday morning, the sea level in Venice rose well above a meter higher than its normal level. Residents and tourists alike had to don rubber boots in order to wade through the water.
Tradesmen are well versed in dealing with the water as flooding is now a yearly occurrence.
"Here we go again, like last year and all the other years. We just need to get used to work with the water."
Northern Italy has been hit by a bad weather front over the last two days. Strong winds and heavy rainfall are pounding much of the area.
