Mavin Gaye stopped this man getting a deal with motown he was good motown said sounded to much like Mavin, read about this, so much went on there, JJ barns to me is the man

And goodness knows Motown didn't need two artist who sounded alike. The music sounding the same was enough.

It was written by Stevie Wonder & did get a release by Stevie on his "I Was Made To Love Her" album. Danny Williams also did a version which came out on Deram in the UK in 1968.
There is also a version of "Every Time I See You I Go Wild" which was also recorded by JJ.
The two tracks saw the light of day on "Cellarful Of Motown Volume 2" CD in
2005.
Blinding track BTW

Reality is that very, very few people knew why back then and most definitely even less now. A mystery indeed but its the same story with many artists and labels. Much was recorded and never put out. Dena Barnes for instance when she recorded "If You Ever Walk Out of My Life" also did approx another 15 songs which have never seen the light of day but did at one time exist, or still do somewhere, on tape. There is probably as much or more good stuff unreleased as was released. If only ----

I don't think Motown missed it as such. The reason J.J. was dropped by Motown was they thought he sounded too much like Marvin Gaye.
