Фрагменты документального фильма о приюте для бездомных собак
Excerpts from the documentary about a shelter for homeless dogs
(a film by Olesia Buryachenko)

Zov predkov (The Call Of Ancestors) is a private shelter. About 180 dogs live here on a lot located near the forest 20 kilometres from Moscow. All the animals that have been brought here have had different fates. However, their individual biographies have one detail in common: all of them have been saved from death by people who could not pass by indifferently.

I made this film to attract public attention to the situation of homeless animals in Russia. The situation is really terrible. The attitude towards animals is extremely cruel, savage, and uncivilized. One can see hungry homeless animals everywhere, even in a millionaires' residential neighbourhood. People treat animals as inanimate objects. Throwing a plastic bag with newly born puppies into the garbage, or hitting a dog or a cat by a car and leaving it on the road to die without even stopping is considered normal behavior.

Moscow became the first Russian city to issue a law that forbids killing homeless animals. Nevertheless, homeless animals are still being killed in the streets every day. All the animal rights activists' protests have no effect. Animals are shot and killed by paralytic gas. They die in terrible torment. The numberless cases of animal cruelty are never subject to criminal prosecution. Any person or organization can call a crew, and an animal will be caught and killed.

Animals have no rights in our country. Those who love and support them have no rights, too. The law protects only those who hate and kill them.
There is NO animal shelter network which would solve this problem in a civilized way.
Thousands of living beings in this world need urgent help but the number of those who understand this fact is very small.
THIS FILM IS AN ATTEMPT TO SHOW AN EXAMPLE OF TRUE COMPASSION AND ALTRUISM. This is a ZERO budget film. All the money that could have been used making this film was spent on its four-legged heroes. I made it without any financial support because I realized that we MUST do something to make the life of other living beings a little easier.
