The demolition of a levee near Cairo, Ill. sent floodwaters onto thousands of acres of Missouri farmland Tuesday, easing the threat of the Mississippi River to the tiny town. But it did nothing to ease the risk of more trouble down river. (May 4)

  • Was this racially motivated? Remember the charges of racism concerning the levees in 'Orleans after Katrina? Perhaps the last thing the government wanted was a bunch of black people in flood waters yelling about racism on T.V.? I've been to Cairo, Illinois. It is majority black and an absolute dump. Crime is three to four times the national average in a town of 2800 people. The gov ruined 100,000+ acres of good farmland and good homes (owned by whites) for a welfare dump?!

  • @mn8aol The fact that you still believe all that is what is so sad. Just sad. Oh well, you will be one of the first casualties. Wrapped in your american flag diapers, holding your signs " We have rights, GARSH DARN IT!" Good luck with that. lol

  • It was a hard decision by the Corps.

The danger for the farmland is not that it's flooded; that is nature's way. For thousands of years the rivers flooded these areas and left rich soil which makes for good farm land.

It's what is in the flood waters that mess up the farmland and make it unusable: Petroleum products, raw sewage, chemicals, etc. Some of these are very toxic and can not be removed from the soil.

(Unfortunately, regarding housing; people rebuild in flood plains.)

  • @blueiguy1 But my problem is with the government deciding who's land gets flooded and who's doesn't. Now the government has to pay for all the farmers land when they could of let the levees do their thing and see who's levee would of held out longer. Then the people who knew the dangers of living in a flood plain would of still got flooded but the government doesn't have an obligation to pay for the people land. Why take money from New York and give it to Missouri farmers for living in high risk

  • @nastynik123 Because the farmers knew it would happen. The plan was, in this case that this type of action would take place. So by your very point the farmers should be held responsible because they knew it would happen not the other way around. I really hate it for the farmers but this was a part of the land and had been written in action some decades ago, they just never had this situation before. When the farmers buy flood plain land there is always the risk ,you speak of .

  • @blueiguy1 The people in Cairo, IL knew that this could happen too so why should they have been spared? Let the levees be breached and who ever built the higher one wins. It really bothers me that the government can decide who's home gets saved and who's doesn't. I don't have much sympathy for people in natural disasters such as these, sure it sucks that it happened and I don't wish it on them but living in certain areas is a risk to it and you should pay financially to protect yourself.

  • @blueiguy1 The farmers knew this could happen and built a levee with their money to protect their land but the government came in and decided who was more important What if a million dollar mansion that was on the farmer's side so the price of the land was more valuable, who should of been flooded then? If they would of let both levees be breached then the government wouldnt have to give the farmers compensation for their loss, now they do so it will cost the american tax payer more. Part 1

  • @SouthernManX You stupid ass, it was a matter of cost! A little farm land which can be replanted or billions of dollars in infrustucture, further down the river. My god your a dumb ass!

  • @SouthernManX The problem is that the Government DID flood New Orleans back in the early 1900's before because of racism. Second the farmers KNEW this could happen because this was a flood plain. I was written along time ago. So stop with the "white plight" Shit . The farms will recover.

  • @irishslave51 You're certifiable. I'd book yourself into the nearest psychiatric practice pronto, because you have serious mental problems judging by what you've written. As for keeping the British monarchy alive with Oirish potatoes, well, you've given me the biggest laugh for a month. Keep it up.

  • Join our peaceful international strike against corrupt governments, globalists who try to push their eugenics and evil agenda - you think that this was a wise action? Think again!
