In fairness, the Soviets would have won the war by themselves; however, it would have taken a lot longer to do so. The primary reason as to why Britain & America executed Operation Overlord was not to alleviate pressure or assist Russia, but to reduce the post-war influence of the Soviet Union, who most likely would have expanded their buffer zone to a much greater extent (not good for Britain & America, especially in regards to their marketed economies).
