  • Love her voice

  • Impeccable singing. She was in the first opera I ever saw. It was Marta at the Met in 1958 with Richard Tucker. How lucky I feel to have enjoyed that voice in person.

  • If there was a list with the best sopranos ever, Victoria de Los Angeles would be No.1

  • MARAVILLOSA !! VOZ PURÍSIMA Y CRISTALINA, UNA BELLEZA !!!

  • Victoria de los Angeles sings this beautifully. Totally in tune. Another WINNER

posted by the excellent Onegin65. Thanks.

  • @qyzuf you "feel almost guilty to criticize VDLA" because there are trolls on the web who attack anybody who criticize anything. you must ignore them and say what you feel even if others disagree. VDLA has a lovely voice and is very musical, but she puts me to sleep. I prefer Callas. But I would take vdla on her worst day over any professional singer today.

  • @areiosgeorgos with that logic, everything is a song about everything.

  • @qyzuf

    interesting point, thanks!

You may well be right. I feel almost guilty to criticize de los angeles, but her one flaw might be her very good, almost too good personality. I mean, still, this aria is the aria of a woman, capable of murder, in a psychotic state and in prison. With that in mind, this amazing performance is still somehow too "nice"

  • @qyzuf: It actually IS a love song to her child and her mother! Doesn't she love them? Aren't we expected to hear Margherita's maternal love towards her child in this aria?

  • @johngotwalt There is a house tape. I heard it once. Everything you would expect!

  • I love her, and obviously her voice here...and the highnotes and technique and musicality...STILL- can you hear that this is the song of a woman who lost her sanity after killing her mom and child? Wouldn't you believe, not knowing otherwise, that this is a love song?

  • I can learn so much from just listening to her - her emotion, clarity, fluidity... and all without seeing her... wow. What a performance.
