The Thunderbirds were Melbourne's very first rock band, formed in 1957. They recently celebrated their 50th anniversary. This song was a big hit in Australia and charted in the US. Pete Robinson is on bass guitar.
@baazooka86 I agree that is a cleaner version, but I think the earlier versions are still better. The song is about rebellion and such, and I think the rawness of the song helps express that.
My friend and I went to the Preston town hall, where they performed regularly....
Henri Bource was fantastic on the sax....Instrumentals were very popular back then.
The Allen Brothers were there one night and we had a chat to Peter Allen....nice guy.
There was another band there most nights with a great sound, but I can't think of their name..
They had a couple of hits....The Comanches maybe? Does anyone remember?

@craigswoodle I like the earlier version also. I grew up with it and it's more familiar.

@Darthbelal Geeez. Why so angry? Both songs are good, just different in sound and style.

@baazooka86 The Thunderbirds put a layer of gloss on this song that gives it a bit more depth and it's very much appreciated, dammit.
