Violetta is a tricky one. She demands some coloratura, some lyric and some spinto. It is not that you can manage all the notes that you can be a good Violetta. I love Natalie Dessay, but this Violetta just looked very odd to me (also the one with Rene Felmming)... These two are just not the right Violetta.

@valaurwen Please don't think I'm actually ignorant enough to think Americans only appreciate a "big show"...I'm a Canadian who grew up in the states..humans are humans; we're multi-faceted and unique - to each their own ;)

Everyone loves a big show. It is incredibly ignorant to criticize only Americans for enjoying a "big show". Opera is not only about the singing and the music - it is also about the acting, the scenery, props and set up. People come from all over the world every season to see our "big show" American operas at the Met Opera house. I for one, am an American who appreciates the opera in its entirety. Honestly, Dessay's singing in this role can't touch Racette or Netrebko's anyhow.
