Have there been any serious philosophical or psychoanalytic studies of why farting is funny? I theorised once that it represents a subversive non-verbal discourse of the body, but I was doing a lot of acid then.

@Enantiodromialist For me, 90% of the fun is the actor's reactions and/or dialogue following the fart. It's not really about the sound of the fart, it's the reactions. As far as psychoanalytic studies go, I think farting represents man's lack of control over his own environment, which includes his rectum.
