Too many errors in this smug video to count; let's start with this one: Huckabee did not advocate a "national ban on smoking." He supported a ban on smoking in the workplace, because it's a proven health hazard to all, esp. the non-smokers. Huckabee LOWERED taxes in Arkansas except for a 1/2 cent sales tax which was passed by the voters in a referendum. During his 12 yrs as governor, Arkansans' average tax burden went DOWN, roads & schools were greatly improved, and he was re-elected TWICE.
Conservatives weigh things based on their constitutionality? Well, I guess I am slightly confused by what this term means "Conservative". But a great deal of conservatives I know locally seem to be in favor of adding new additions to our constitution in order to interfere in people's personal lives. That never made sense to me.
But nicotine is not illegal. They do not allow workers to smoke on their premises, even in their cars on their lots. So this is about what an employee does in their own home. You are informed that during your employment, there are random tests of employees to see if they are using nicotine. You are told it is a harmful and addictive substance, quite true, but if someone wants to do this, why should an employer be intrusive?
Vitamins are good, but do I want the government legislating that I take them? Most of the laws, such as the seatbelt and helmet laws, came about because of the insurance costs and monies paid out. People believe the government put those laws into effect to protect them, but that isn't the case. Some states, like Ohio, allow businesses to test you for nicotine when you are hired. The reason you are told, is they are into good health and "smoking is bad."
Huckabee represents what is wrong with the Republican Party. Since it has been hijacked by the Neocon Religious Right Wing, it has become as intrusive as their accusations of the Democrats. You are correct pointing out that people do not see the problems with government interference.
