G20 Toronto - Snatch & Grab Squads

the tactic is called 'snatch & grab', whereby the state thugs identify/target 'protest leaders', then move in to remove them from the group. the intent being of course to intimidate and demoralize the other protesters.

the criminalization of dissent and marginalization/erosion of our democratic right to public assembly & protest became painfully obvious as the 'Integrated Security Unit' dispatched hundreds (thousands?) of Imperial Stormtroopers to harass and intimidate demonstrators; 'kettling' and beating peaceful protesters into tightly restricted/controlled "Free Speech Zones"... concerned citizens who had rightly taken to the streets in protest of the rapacious greed & socially-destructive policies imposed by G20 leaders, and the vulgarity of having a 'police state' apparatus rammed down our throats.

'the mood' changed rather quickly after the State thugs showed up (there were even snipers stationed on rooftops for fucksake)... masked, militarized and malevolent. it was pretty obvious that many of Chief Blair's robocops were itching for fight and wasted no opportunity to push their authoritarian weight around at the slightest provocation (like blowing bubbles or singing our national anthem).

essentially, the overwhelming police presence was stifling and repressive; the kettling tactics, snatch & grab squads, mass pepper spraying, restricted to 'free speech zones', et al. the militaristic 'security theatre' of the G20 fiasco is what transformed initially peaceful demonstrations into a specious justification for the $1 BILLION security state boondoggle that the Harper regime gouged the Canadian people for; while also depriving us of our civil rights.

then there's the issue of Agent Provocateurs masquerading themselves as 'anarchists', who infiltrate the crowd and deliberately incite violence and property destruction. deploying provocateurs to 'stir up the crowd' is an all too common police tactic. plain clothes undercover cops incite and intimidate, like they did at the Montebello G8 summit (except the cops got caught that time). eventually cops move in on the 'unruly crowd' and commit mass thuggery, confining people like cattle, snatch/grab people off the street (usually the brave ones leading the protests), etc... and voila! protest gets shut down, voices of dissent are silenced. all too easy.

btw, actual anarchists are peaceful people, ime. it's just another of those hysterical myths that statists like to pull out of their bag of dirty tricks to bamboozle the public. demonize and scapegoat the 'scary anarchists' as the source of civil disobedience - with the intent of marginalizing / ignoring the legitimate grievances of peaceful protesters... meanwhile, smashed windows and burning cop cars grab all the headlines.

corrupt cops / illegitimate authorities have been pulling this nefarious shit forever.
