Me on keyboard drums jamming to three classic video game songs: Secret of Mana "Into the Thick of It", Super Mario Kart "Koopa Beach", and Sonic the Hedgehog "Starlight Zone". Partially an excuse to try out my new Sony Webbie HD and partially an excuse to show off :)

The drumkit samples are a combination of the free GSCW kit, the NS7-free kit and various free one-shot samples I've found here and there. The full kit can be downloaded in SFZ form here: http://www.mediafire.com/?zmgqhttzdmy

  • I recorded the kick samples with the Beta 52a I still can't believe how well it came out! LOL its a tiny 16x16 floor tom I converted to a kick drum..

    Enjoy...

  • @girotube And when building this kit, I picked GSCW as the base BECAUSE of the kick (and to a lesser extent, the crisp hi-hats). So yeah, apparently a good

kick mic with some good recording and careful editing can turn a tiny floor tom into a BEAST of a kick sample :D

  • @brandonbush1 For the Hi hats (Sabian AAX studio) I used the overheads to sample the hi-hats. Shure KSM 109. no direct mic on the hats.. The tom toms I sampled them with the AKG C1000s and the snaredrum I did Sen 421 mkII on the top and SM 57 on the bottom. All samples are pre-EQd'. On the Full HALion 2.3 sample format I put double hats on different octaves and some cymbals crash - rolls. The samples are 4 years old.

  • @girotube : Must have been a pretty nice room to get such sharp hats with no room noise using just the overheads. I've never used the KSM 109's though, so maybe they're particularly good at rejecting reflections coming from behind the capsule. And that's an interesting mic setup for the snare as well. 57 on the bottom, sure, but I'd normally think of the 421 as a tom mic. Worked great though...maybe that's what I'm hearing as a nicely rounded mid range on the snare.

  • hahaha! This Giro the creator of the GSCW drum samples you are Playing on your controller...! I'm Glad the mapping on the keyboard worked great for you!

The original Library I made it on HALion 2.3.5 and some good frinds from the KvR forum made the sfz format convertion.

    The drums are.

Kick:16x16 yamaha (floor tom into bass drum)

Snare drum: 13x6 CustomWorks. You can see this one on my channel

Tom toms: 10" Tama Starclassic Maple

Tom Tom: 13" Tama Starclassic Birch

    SABIAN Cymbals

  • @girotube Sweet! Thank you so much for giving us all such great samples! I made a lot of modifications to the mappings for what you see being played here, but that's only because I'm SUPER picky about my drum mappings. However, in other personal recordings I use your kit and mappings virtually verbatim, and I love 'em!

  • Bravo! You should do more of these.

  • This is so cool! I love this song so much, I've been trying to play it on piano but it's so much better with drums.

  • @brandonbush1

KSM 109 are super or hypercadioid if I remember correctly...

The kick and snare were pre-amped with the DBX 586. Lots of tube beef..

  • Seriously like powerpc127 said this need some attention!
