We are all essentially artists painting our picture of who we think we are and what we think the world is. We have our own innate psychological tendencies (vasanas) which are expressed in a particular cultural context.

Our picture consists of bits, details that we home in on. Where is this picture painting happening?

It is emptiness painting emptiness. This is space which could be regarded as analogous with consciousness. It is reflections in a mirror with nothing being reflected. The mirror surface is continuous, unbroken. This is the one awareness expressing itself in infinite variety.

The vasanas are the impulse to create the picture. It becomes the focus of our being. We identify with it and get attached to it. This is samsara. Enquiry undermines the vasanas.

Stand back from our creativity, from the picture that we're painting. Observe the longing to create.
