I loved this film, though it could have been much much better. A nice turn from Roger Moore in this character. It is true though, the two main bad guys are gay and were portrayed in the script as such. Love the music in this as well - the film was called North Sea Hijack in the UK. There's the lovely Jack Watson in there two playing a Norweigan skipper

ffolkes ain't homosexual, merely antagonistic towards women. And it's perhaps the best role Moore ever performed.

Does anyone know if there is a clip of Ffolks saying he does the crossword in under ten minutes?

One cant know scriptwriters mind, back in 1980 you could not just have an openly gay lead character, so a few lines had to be thrown in referring to a "failed marriage", and general mysogony... But I think the people who made this film really wanted both the heros and villains to be gay and went as far as allowed in 1980. I always thought this movie was very interesting context of early LGBT characters in movies before gay rights, but its never mentioned in discussions of this...

Roger Moore was badly miscast as the homosexual Ffolkes in this totally crap movie.

An under rated film with sterling preformances from all and a few comical lines too.
Anyone know where to get the main theme from?

Ffolkes is not gay, but a man who thinks all women are into frilly, sugary, sweetness most less helpless he falls for the woman with the short hair in this movie, he realizes that some woman are tough as a man.
I really wish Roger Moore had a sequel to this movie to show he had fallen in love with the woman with the short hair.

In the movie, Ffolkes' antisocial standing against women is explained (by himself) with his sisters and later his sisters-in-law having treated him as nothing but a personal toy.
I say: I sympathize.

ffolkes is a caustic, antisocial guy whose only close relationships are with his cats. I don't think he even WANTS to have sex with man nor woman. Kramer does seem gay, but he's not exactly a people-person either. He's a sulky dog having his day. Really unique and unforgettable performances by Moore and Perkins. This may be the most unrecognized great action movie ever! Show it to all of your "odious colleagues"!

Not too sure about Moore's charcter being gay - he seemed to get a major erection when he took the girl into the shower and began rubbing her cold, wet body. Moore's lines in this movie are a riot! Also, Perkins was married - had 2 kids. Man he was creepy. The premier of Ontario, Canada looks like Perkins - his name is Dalton McGuinty.

Tony Perkins wasn't gay.
He was bisexual. And it's a confirmed information.
Cigarette, Kramer?
