Test details:

The Chevrolet Cobalt was introduced in the 2005 model year as a replacement for the Cavalier.

Two tests of a Cobalt were conducted, one with an optional side airbag for the driver and rear passenger, and one without. These vehicles are rated separately, except that the structural ratings for both vehicles are based on both tests.

Beginning with 2008 models, side airbags were made standard, except cars sold to fleet buyers can still be obtained without side airbags.

Injury measures:

Driver — Measures taken from the dummy indicate that rib fractures and/or internal organ injuries would be possible in a crash of this severity. The risk of significant injuries to other body regions is low.

Rear passenger — Measures taken from the dummy indicate a low risk of any significant injuries in a crash of this severity.
Head protection:

Driver — The dummys head was protected from being hit by any hard structures, including the intruding barrier, by a side curtain airbag that deployed from the roof.

Rear passenger — The dummys head was protected from being hit by any hard structures, including the intruding barrier, by a side curtain airbag that deployed from the roof.

  • OMG!

This car is a piece of shit.

  • for those small compact cars, they should put like some sort of steel roll cage in them so that the fram is stiff and it won't bend as much. also puting the same thing in the door frame such as steel tubes to protect the driver and passengers.

  • @Trevrz1 '09 is a much safer car? how? it's the same car with the same safety features standard or optional. If you have bought a Cobalt now...I feel sorry for you when there is the better car in the Chevy Cruze in safety as well as the build quality and performance. not to mention the industry standard in the Civic, Corolla, new Jetta, and the new Elentra just to name a few better compact car. and NO, not a civic fan boy per your stupid inbox question. i have a '02 and a '08 C-class.
