Shinsa at the 2010 AUSKF Summer Nationals.

This is my friend and sempai (senior prqactitioner), Sue, taking his test for rokudan (6th degree). The kata here were:
1. Ipponme -- Mae (koryu)
2. (koryu?)
4. Yonhonme -- Tsuka Ate
7. Nanahonme -- Sanpo Giri
11. Juipponme -- Sou Giri
At the higher levels (4th dan and up), the student must show two koryu (school style) kata, and three pre-determined seitei (common to all styles) kata.

I don't know what her second koryu form was called. I will update the description if/when I find out.

  • Unfortunately, no. Almost none of the higher rank (4th dan & up) passed. Apparently, the visiting senseis were not pleased. :|

  • Yes. This was her 6th dan test.

  • The second kata is "tsukikage" by the way. Also, it's clear that Sue is missing a lot needed for that sixth dan she's seeking, particularly the visualization of kasso teki. Her timing, continuity and overal zeal is simply not enough to give knowledgable observers the impression that there's an opponent there. Kihaku and kugurai are very much needed for the depth that would see her succeed her subsequent shinsas. :)

  • btw, did she pass?

  • @krzysiek831983 I'm not an expert, but looks like MJER for the chiburi and noto.

  • @gregcon57

"Textbook stuff" ends at sandan. :)

  • Textbook stuff, right here!

  • What level is it? 6-th dan?

  • Second kata this is SEICHUTO in Muso Shinden Ryu. In Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu this kata name TSUKIKAGE.
