I went thru Parris Island Sept Nov 1967 and when I saw Gunny's welcoming speech in Full Metal Jacket... well, let's just say... NIGHTMARES. The recurring theme of the nightmare was the hell you'd catch if you did something wrong. That is the whole point of the training: if there's one time in your life you need to get it right it's when you're in combat and even then you might not survive. There's a better chance you and the jarhead next to you will survive if you get it right. Eat the apple!
