@kiwiboy1 Any attempt at going for the ball is of course counted as a challenge, otherwise you must only be going for the player which would always be a foul, and therefore not a fair challenge.
Where have you heard of this guideline that keepers cannot be touched? Because if this is true, referees should be given a strong talking to because keepers get touched all the time.

@nimpo46 There is a difference in calling it an in the air challenge and going for the ball. You are not allowed playing the player deliberately in the air however if you are going for the ball together it is a different story. Despite the rules not stating word for word a keeper not allowed being touched It is actually a guidline given to the Refs as they train. Part of a refs job is to ensure the safety of all players some of the most horrific injuries in the past were against keepers
-
@kiwiboy1 I didn't say it wasn't a foul. I just said in Law 12 it does not say the keeper cannot be touched. The law also certainly does not say 'in-the-air' challenges are not allowed either. Why do you think they call those high balls 50-50 challenges? :)

@nimpo46 Going for the ball is completely different to blocking a player from going for the ball. The player jumped against and impeeded the keeper so yes it is a foul. Not only that the push against the keeper which is illegal in law 12 is as clear as day. In the air challenges are not allowed either, but you are entitled to go for the ball in-the-air which is completely different from an in-the-air challenge. Either way New Zealand won and were undefeated bahrain missed a penalty boo hoo.

An indirect free kick is also awarded to the opposing team if, in the
opinion of the referee, a player:
• plays in a dangerous manner
• impedes the progress of an opponent
• prevents the goalkeeper from releasing the ball from his hands
• commits any other offence, not previously mentioned in Law 12,
for which play is stopped to caution or send off a playerRespond to this video...

A direct free kick is awarded to the opposing team if a player commits
any of the following seven offences in a manner considered by the
referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force:
• kicks or attempts to kick an opponent
• trips or attempts to trip an opponent
• jumps at an opponent
• charges an opponent
• strikes or attempts to strike an opponent
• pushes an opponent
• tackles an opponent

@nimpo46 It is called fouling the player. Total nonsense huh it seems the on field ref agrees but still here is the law you asked for law 12 is a good one
-
@kiwiboy1 You show me where it says you can't touch a keeper. That's total nonsense.
the whistle went before the ball went in the net it was for the player jumping against the keeper. you cant actually touch the keeper by jumping against him kinda like tackling in the air in rugby so good call
