As mentioned above, the cause is heat. As the motherboard heats up, it begins to vibrate. These vibrations cause a loosening of the GPU (graphics processing unit). Once the GPU comes loose enough, your game freezes and you have the infamous Xbox 360 3 red lights.

Is there any way to AVOID the three red lights? i have a cooler thingy that came with my 360 but i dont know how to attach it or anything but is there any way to avoid it from happeninng?

ha do u have to pay for repair in america? in england its free if u have "the ring of death" (i shud know, its happened twice now)
