Thats ignition. Those 4 thingys are the intake and exhaust valves. When a piston in a diesel motor compresses, it creates a huge amount of pressure and heat, and so when the fuel is injected into the chamber it ignites, creating power. DidYouseeTheSunrise mistakenly used spark in his explanation, when really there are no sparks in diesel engines. Just pressure and heat that cause ignition.

I agree that some manufacturers diesel engines sound horrible (like the Corsa 1.3 diesel, thats just horribly loud) others make quieter/nicer sounding ones (like Peugeots HDI). Also have a listen to this Impreza diesel, it just sounds great watch?v=9kSJOAUYXJA

So you're saying putting diesel in your dog's food will eventually give it cancer? Probably true, better stick to putting it in your car eh?

The compression stroke compresses air so much that it makes it hot. When the fuel is sprayed into the cylinder you get an explosion. In a normal gasoline engine, the intake stroke has fuel and air mixture pulled into the piston, when a diesel has an intake stroke, it just pulls in air alone. Its much more efficient which is why diesels typically get better gas milage.

Movies like this make Youtube amazing. They often cause me to laugh. But the vast majority of pet owners are little by little KILLING their pet dogs - without understanding it!! The junk companies insert in dog food causes cancer malignancy and tends to make most dogs die early.. If you have a pet dog and you want to help save its life and high priced vet costs and ensure it lives for longer then you must have a look at Double Life Dog Diet (Try looking in Google.)

I'm very happy I was able to!

There may not be a spark plug but there is glow plugs. Where in ancient huge single cylinder engines (same principles with diesel engine) there was a glow tube at the top of the piston, on compression area , heated externally with a heater.
