Dwarf reticulated python eating a rat.

'Zappa' is a Jampea reticulated python (python reticulatus jampeanus) and around 7 feet long now. Jampea retics are found on the island of Tana Jampea and tend to stay relatively small (for a retic.)

The rat he's eating is about 10 inches long, not including the tail. It took him around 30 minutes to eat the whole thing. If you watch his body (not the head / neck) at about 8:16, you can see him take big breaths as he swallows the rat, and can inhale properly again!

Sorry for the poor quality video (webcam capture) and jerky camera work (I was holding it with the forceps!)

  • Nice looking Jamp. I like the way you worked the rat with the forceps. Much more interesting than the usual "Zombie Dance". :-) Very nice strike and wrap, as well. Great vid.

  • @TheManuel22 what is that?

  • nice!

  • I have a ball python and he eats rats that size

  • Ha! I have a Ball python called Zappa! Do you end up calling it Zapps for short? Cause I do.

  • great video, cool snake

  • Wha'ts normal dwarf adult size?

  • BOOM! - Nice!

If that were my retic he'd have had my hands before the rat! lol
