My first Sharpe Vid

Lyrics:

Here's forty shillings on the drum
For those who'll volunteer to come
To 'list and fight the foe today.
Over the hills and far away.

O'er the hills and o'er the main.
Through Flanders, Portugal and Spain.
King George commands and we obey.
Over the hills and far away.

When duty calls me I must go
To stand and face another foe.
But part of me will always stray
Over the hills and far away.

O'er the hills and o'er the main.
Through Flanders, Portugal and Spain.
King George commands and we obey.
Over the hills and far away.

If I should fall to rise no more,
As many comrades did before,
Then ask the fifes and drums to play.
Over the hills and far away.

Then fall in lads behind the drum,
With colours blazing like the sun.
Along the road to come-what may.
Over the hills and far away.

  • @heroforages yes indeed!

  • I wish i lived in the days of the British empire. Things were so much more simpler then. Just King and country to serve, loyalty & honor rife in our countrymen, and a Empire to build.

Nowadays our own beautiful green Island nation has been turned into a cash-cow dumping ground for the third world to feed off.

  • Sean Bean didn't age for thirty years.

  • Can we just give it a rest? Here are the facts as I see them: Britain could not have won the war alone. However, they would not have lost after the Battle of Britain, after which Hitler lacked the air superiority to invade and the war started to turn in their favour in Africa. The US proved to be the needed backup to allow the Allies to break out on the Western front. But in the end, the war was won by Hitler's insanity in betraying the vast Russian military, who overwhelmed thin German forces.

  • Which one is that at 3:26

  • @uafchris agreed the germnas were effectively beaten after el alamein and stalingrad, they had no resources and the only real use of the US was providing logistics for the normandy campaign, they should however be thanked for that fairly major though defo not leading role

  • @Karateworm well Germany was allied to Japan, and as such were obliged to declare war upon whom ever her ally declares war. So yes the US was pretty much bound to fight in Europe when the Japs declared the US an enemy

  • @AwesomeCaleb1996 I don't like getting stuck into petty nationalist arguments on youtube, but I think it's worth pointing out at Hitler declared war on the United States. There was a lot of isolationist sentiment in the US at the time, it's doubtful the US would have properly entered the European conflict if Nazi Germany hadn't declared war first.

  • @bevylawd u r talking bolux butt

  • @uafchris look up "Made in America" by Toby Keith
