3rd track off their second album "Under Thunder and Fluorescent Lights".

This track also contains some guest drumming by the amazing Jim Black. Ian Williams(Battles, Don Caballero) on a guitar hooked up to a bass amp. Erich Ehm plays electric bass with some pedals. Kevin Shea plays free drums, bells, and shells.

  • 2:26 listen to the panning. Is this one drummer doing down beats and one doing ups???

  • @thekvm You are correct. There are two drummers playing in this song. Kevin Shea and Jim Black(guest drummer). Look him up, he's really good.

  • Glad to see people loving this band! Truly at the top of my list of favorite bands.

  • @biosinigrate Okay you are probably trolling but in the case of S&S I can kind of understand why someone would feel that way. It's not something you can approach casually, it needs a context. Go away and listen to Captain Beefheart, listen to Eno, listen to Sonny Sharrock and Albert Ayler. Listen to Mars and DNA. listen to Dilute. Listen to Can and The Fall. Listen to King Crimson, then come back and listen to Storm & Stress again. Maybe then it'll be easier to digest.

  • @biosinigrate you obviously can't hear the music in traffic passing by your house.

  • @xFarBeyondTheStarsx haha, I forgot I wrote that comment and was about to respond to myself that I noticed the same thing!

I know Jim Black and know he is on this song. I got this album when it came out and not a year has gone by I haven't listened to it! I've just always wondered if that is actually what is happening right at that point as opposed to it just being one drum in stereo, because that would be crazy (though with these guys, it's not too far fetched!)

  • doesn't make sense even when yer high

  • Storm and Stress is TRULY one of those bands that is either adored or despised. There is no middle ground. I have no sagely advice for the non-listener. You like it or you don't. I completely agree with some of those on both sides. My only question to the detractors remains this - Have you really LISTENED or merely HEARD?

  • once had a drink at the bar @ Rudyard's with eric the guy in the floatation device while he was in Don Cab. He said his cigarette was out and his drink was empty.

  • @barrett5169 MATE you told it st8 there...i completely agree. People who say 'er this is just terrible' need to understand the context of experimental music this is embracing. Trout mask replica is a fine example (which you stated) which shows how this music has developed over 40 years but alsoPeople also need to understand Ian Williams's guitar playing style. Trolls need to listen to the don caballero discography to fully respect the sound he is creating..so trolls..Jazz+DonCab+Troutmaskreplica

  • @TheRedHutt Very true. I think the reason most people don't understand this music is because they are expecting something to be there that they won't find. My favorite Kevin Shea quote: "If you expect to see anything at all then probability has you by the balls."

    love this band!

  • love this. it has the feel of improvisation but there is clearly a mathematics behind what they are doing. makes me stop and really think about the music.

  • @biosinigrate Not random. There are some interesting ideas being expressed here, though many people can't hear them. The melodies are transiently played with, rhythms hinted at. Nothing sticks around long enough to become an established foundation, meaning no edifice can be built on top. This could understandably get frustrating if you expect architecture or structure that's not there. But building is not the point. Squinting can help you focus your sight or blur it; both can be worthwhile.
