yeah, considering this was 92 and only 3 gymnasts (dawes, miller & lyssenko) were competing three layout stepouts ... with dawes the first up to attempt, i'm stunned this didn't go at least low 9.8s for degree of difficulty & innovation.
Those 2 balance breaks and small landing step were the main deductions, but I;m surprised the judges didn't give her extra props (tenth or so) for her killer split leaps that were way above horizontal. And the 3rd layout. Killer.
Yeah, I think Bela wanted her to play it safe by throwing a double-back dismount. She should have just gone for the full-in. Such a great routine.
I agree the score is a bit low, but not worth a 9.80. She had two big balance checks where her foot actually came off the beam, that's more than a "slight" bobble, as well as a hop and shuffle on the dismount.
a few balance checks but still underscored at 9.637. this was the first time anyone performed three layout stepouts on beam in an olympic games (miller would follow later in the lineup). being so revolutionary, the judges should've awarded no lower than 9.8 even with the form errors. just my opinion.

@vontrappster - Because of her ankle injuries.

She couldn't do it at the time. She had already taken it out by '92 Trials.

She had severe tendinitis of the ankles in Barcelona. It was so bad that she had to be in casts after the Olympics.
Karolyi didn't have the power at that time to dictate other gymnasts' routines.
