In this video, I take a little drive all around downtown Lima to find some trains. And trains was exactly what I found including things that I didn't expect to see such as an exBN GP40, A PRR Boxcar, A Erie Lackawanna boxcar, and an RSSX GP10! There was another RSSX GP10 switching the refinery but I couldn't get a shot of it because I was unable to find a place to park and the area was fenced off. Enjoy! A Zixstreet6 Productions!

  • About 6 years ago I did some switching in the refinery. We moved LPG and Benzene cars from the yard to the unloading racks, the went over to the BP chemical plant to switch teh hydrogen cionide cars. Those are some OLD locos. There is pretty neat turn table at one end of the yard. I haven't been back there in ages. Is the defunct Lima Locomotive factory building still there?

  • I don't think it is, No. . . Would have been something to have seen them crank out all those brand new Berk's, Allegheny's, and other neat looking steamers!

  • Is that a train going in the background?

  • It's a former GP40X working the west end of the yard.

  • that sucks u didnt get 2 c the FEC GP40X I&O has down there

  • @conrail2 Well we didnt get a chance to look at it because we couldnt get back there but Im pretty sure the locomotive you see at 1:33 is the one youre talking about.

  • @trainmandan05 I grew up in Lima in the 50's & 60's next to the EL Mainline. Lots of trains back then on all the lines thru town. Several much older relatives worked at the "loco" until 1945or so. One of my Grandfathers was on the NKP for 41 yrs based in Lima & Frankfort. When I was little I "helped" my Mom at the "Servicemans Canteen" by the PRR station. It was the last one in the US. I was about 11 or 12 when I met some guys going to a place called Viet Nam. Had no idea where it was.

  • I just did a little research and saw the Lima Locomotive Works factory was torn down in 1998. Maybe someone was pointing to where it once was. At any rate, visiting Lima to learn rail logistics is a fond memory. I was always into trains, so it was kind of a treat for me. What I learned in the long run is that for customer service NS gets a thumbs up, and CSXT gets two thumbs way down.

  • Very interesting! Some cool rinds through there. You missed one though, the 505 is an FEC. : )

  • @23CSX1 Yes, there was a CSX engine doing some switching work down in the yard.
