After alot of searching on the internet I managed to get these refillable cartridges. These cartridges need to be primed after refilling to remove the static air in the upper ink feeding compartment prior to installing into the printer to preven air being pumped into the printer, which causes massive banding.

Resetting is done by shorting two copper contacts on the chip for 5 seconds. I discovered by pure coincidence the best refill ink for this printer is the normal strength magenta/light magenta version of Inkjetfly IMA 24/36, which I previously tested in my Epson Pro 3800, but gave me a strong magenta cast in the ABW-mode. Now this printer is normally using the vivid magenta/vivid light magenta ink, but somehow the normal strength magenta of the Inkjetfly IMA 24/36 V3 ink set gave me very neutral B&W prints without the slightest colour cast and using the same profiles I made for the original Epson K3 Vivid inkset the prints came out indistinguishable, compared tot the ones made with the original ink.

It was so good, I could hardly believe this is the result of the refill ink, so I performed 3 extra cleaning cycles to be sure I flushed out the original Epson K3 Vivid ink completely and made a few test prints and again 100 % indistinguishable. Same (very low) gloss differential, same amount of (almost no) bronzing and same colour rendition compared to the original ink. This is really amazing !!! So buy the normal strenght magenta/light magenta ink set of Inkjetfly IMA 24/36 V3 for this printer to get a 100 % match with the original Epson K3 Vivid ink, not the vivid version.

  • Have a look at the nifty-stuff website. I wrote an extensive review of the cartridges and the refill ink.
