The Freedom Riders represented a cross-section of America -- black and white, young and old, religious and secular. "The Freedom Rides were trying to say to America: we are a diverse country — let's act like a diverse country, where every part of the diversity is equal, and is treated equally," says Freedom Rider Rabbi Israel Dresner. Watch the broadcast premiere of FREEDOM RIDERS on Monday, May 16th, 2011 at 9/8 c (check your local PBS listings).

LOL, Those idiots aren't coming in front of the camera. They're probably embarrassed.

  • I watched this doc on 16May, and I enjoyed it. I'm an AA . One thing missing from most of these docs (including this one) are interviews from the "other side". From the klansmen who threw the punches and were never caught, the Southern cops who stood aside while the Freedom Riders were assaulted, etc. I know the Freedom Riders look back with pride at what they did. Do the members of the other side look back with pride & tell their children about it? I don't believe they're all dead yet.

  • Thank you Lord for every one of these people. Just trying to understand how brave they had to be is incomprehensible. They are heroes! Bless them!!!
