I've been sitting on this tone for some time, mainly because I don't think its close enough to be a decent Marshall Marshall Super Lead Tone, but in my view it's the best you will get from a BOSS ME50. Contact BOSS to complain. Ha. BTW, Their new stuff sounds pretty cool.

If someone has a better setting, then message me! This is what its all about. Trading tone settings. Yes, the real thing is better, but it costs far more than $200 bucks.

This tone would suit everything from oldschool metal to Steve Stevens, Green Day, Slash, ACDC, Blues or even Nirvana.

First up, the settings:

Tone Modify: Type=H-S
Compressor: Sustain=10 Level=10
Noise Suppressor: Threshold=10
Reverb: 5 (i.e.: Hall reverb on full)
OD/DS: Type=ModernDS Drive=0 Bottom=10 Tone=7 Level=4.5
Modulation: Type=STChorus2 Rate=0 Depth=10 E.Level=10
Delay: Type=SpacePan Time=0 Feedback=0 E.Level=5
Expression: Type=Wah Level=10 (i.e.: Leave the pedal switched on full)

That's it. Basically I started with as close as I could get to a old school Marshall and then pushed it to distort using the compressor. I tried every setting I could and this is about as good as a BOSS ME50 will do.

The video is crackling a little because im using the PC mike input. You get a far better sound if you buy a decent USB sound sampler. The tone could use a little sub end bass added via VST effects.

Hope you like it. Cheers

Derek

  • I just noticed that you have the drive at 0. Is that supposed to be 10? Also, is that the DS-1 setting with the variation off? What are your amp settings with the ME50 into it? I have a Blackstar HT5 tube amp and I have never been able to get my ME 50 to sound well on my amps clean channel. Great playing BTW!

  • @BlackStarFan007 BTW I have a PRS single cut and a Blackjack C1 with a JB. I guess the JB would work best for your settings?

  • @BlackStarFan007 I dont use an of these settings with a guitar amp. I think its best to get the tone you want from the amp, and then just enhance it using the ME50. Normally I just use the FAT, OD1, Uni-V, Analog delay and wah with an amp. The FAT boosts mid range, which a lot of guitarists did in the 70's. I use the OD1 for a solo boost. Sometimes I use the harmonizer as a octave effect. I like the tremolo effect on clean blues tones

  • @BlackStarFan007 ModernDS is RAT with variation on. Drive is 0, since I overdrive it using the compressor as a boost. I didnt use an amp. I just plugged into the mic input on my PC from the headphone output on the ME50. The blackstar is a decent amp, so I would just use the ME50 for spot effects and a solo boost.

  • Can I trade my guitar, amp, and your playing for mine?? :)

  • @BlackStarFan007 Ha. Thanks. Sounds like you have a better guitar and amp than me. I heard a Blackstar at the local music store. Sounded very nice! Never played a PRS. I tend to prefer cheap epiphone guitars. Even the $200 buck epi's sound cool, and I dont worry about denting them, or some idiot stealing one.
