After logging 654 miles and 4 months on the road, barefoot charity runner Tellman Knudson announced today that he is pausing his voyage across America. An exhausted budget and a persistent heel injury forced him to return to his home in Vermont, where he will spend the coming weeks raising funds to continue the run and giving his heel time to recover.
Knudson spent over $500,000 since the start of his barefoot run in New York City on September 9, 2009, all of which came from his own bank account. A deep heel bruise halted the run for 2 weeks in mid-November in southeast Ohio. When he began running again after Thanksgiving, he was advised by a local doctor to scale down his mileage from a marathon per day to 3 miles per day.
In a video released on YouTube today, Knudson said, "My heel injury has resurfaced and I'm not happy about that. But I am not giving up. I am not going to stop."
Knudson said that it is absolutely critical that the run is eventually completed and that his fund raising goal of $100,000,000.00 to help homeless youth in America is met.
Knudson has "regrouped" his RunTellmanRun support team and focused its efforts on raising money to continue the run. When a sufficient amount is raised, he will resume the run where it left off in western West Virginia.
Knudson urged supporters to go to http://www.runtellmanrun.com/donate to aid his homeless youth charity and hasten his return to the road.
