After the victory over Italy in 1896, Ethiopia acquired a special importance in the eyes of Africans as the only surviving African State. After Adowa, Ethiopia became emblematic of African valour and resistance, the bastion of prestige and hope to thousands of Africans who were experiencing the full shock of European conquest and were beginning to search for an answer to the myth of African inferiority.

  • Now, calm down my Italian brothers and sisters, your European friends, the Zulus, the Zulu spokesperson who is trying to compare and underestimate the victory of Ethiopia.... Instead, let's all be reminded, so that we won't be foolish again and keep invading other nations by force....

  • As an Ethiopian, I'm proud of our history made at Adwa, Ethiopia (It is a national holiday here in Ethiopia and every time we are reminded of our courage, unity, power and this will keep us going forward .....

  • ! It is true that Europeans good side was also to bring in new technologies, but the problem was that it was by force that they wanted to implement their particular knowledges..... (Why the Europeans decided to invade Africa? I’m sure that has its own explanation)......

  • I'm sure it has to take a lot of Pride, Courage and wisdom apart from weapons to get a victory OR even earn one!

  • One European country who chose Ethiopia, Italy was unfortunate for them defeated by the Ethiopians and Ethiopia remained independent to this date ( Infact, I believe that Ethiopia is the only country IN THE WORLD never to be colonized by any nation) .....

  • @kentisann Europeans decided to divide and conquer Africa in their mission so called “Scramble for Africa" in the 1890’s up until WW I.....

  • @grottoification1 so what is your point? no matter what you say Ethiopia is free from the hands of Ins-levers by there proud resistant never to be conker.but if you want to know about Ethiopian military tactics you have to search in the pages of history ..i promise you you will never be disappointed.or go dig the grieve of HANIBAL and likes.

  • @grottoification1 Your excuses are an act of belittling the victory and nothing else. Of course, we all know why you try to do that. It is upto Italy to know how the ethiopia is armed and how many adversaries it will be facing. NO AMOUNT of excuse WOULD annul the victory and should make YOU ignore whatever failure in military strategy and intelligence from the ITALIAN INVASTION. Get that through your head, a victory is always victory whether it was expensive, unmatched or whatever.

  • @grottoification1 You may keep trying to belittle the significance of the war. Ethiopia had no formal army at the time. Even the king had to and his army had to walk all the way from shoa about a minimum of 800 km south of Adwa to get to the battle field. The army is not salaried. Its basically a militia. If Italy thought it can readily invade ethiopia, with the amount of little capacity you are talking about, it is not for Ethiopia to worry about but crush the invading army.

  • @grottoification1 Look man. The Italians are the invading army. They figured menelik will sit down and lay low while they have been ploting and competing with other colonial power. What do you think menelik is, a bamboo ? of course he got weapons. He dealt with the Italians themselves before, and the french and russians. Of course he recieved material support, not because they loved him but because he paid for it. It is upto the invading army, Italy not to underestimate the enemy.
