On July 18th 2010 - a group of Mothers summited Mount Rainier as Climb Against Coal - calling for an end to the use of coal in Washington State and beyond. As they came back to base camp - a support team rolled out a massive 75,000 square foot banner on Inner Glacier with the words "No Coal". Dozens of families and friends gathered below to support the action and summit team - getting positive words from scores of passing hikers and climbers!

  • What a dopey waste of time. We need ideas not 60's style small minded protests. What would you replace coal with?

Coal is a relatively cheap fuel with some of the largest deposits in politically stable regions thus generally offering a more stable supply than natural gas and oil, the largest deposits of which are located in the more politically volatile Persian Gulf.
