Great episode. Richard Mulligan appeared in another, equally as sad, episode of Bonanza. His wife here was his REAL second wife, Joan Hackett. It's sort of sad to watch this(he playing the character of a distraught father never-to-be) while he spent most of his life estranged from his own real life son.

at about 42 seconds she says,"if he can kick as hard on the outside as he does on the inside, he'll be a heck of a soccer player." unlikely the were playing soccer in the 1860's or 1870's in america. and even in europe in the early 1900's it was called "association football"

The three last seasons of Bonanza seemed like the first three seasons of The Little House on The Prairie! LOL

1:47 Hoss' reaction was soooo cute!

The 12th and 13th Season themes for BONANZA were the best! My personal favorite of the 3 was Version # 2 of that theme used for very few episodes from this season, including and ending with "Rock-a-Bye Hoss" from 1971.
Completely different from the music version that everyone remembers , this is often referred to by the fans as "The Big Bonanza".
Stuffed squirrel alert!

The best part about the latest seasons of Bonanza were that they took on more social issues for lack of a better word and touch on some interesting issues.
The worst part? That Adam was not there. He was the one always looking for justice and a deeper story line.
