During a recent visit to Oak Island, NC I took the opportunity to fly twice while I was there. Once to get checked out in a rental plane and the second time for some sight seeing. This video starts off June 19, 2011 with my check ride in N3030E, a nice 1978 172N I rented from Brunswick Air at KSUT.

I had a great CFI, Tyler, who allowed me to video our flight so that I could watch it back later and help me improve my amateur skills. The beginning of the video shows that flight's takeoff from runway 23 at KSUT, a 180 degree turn around Bald Head Island and then my first attempt at a stall and recovery.

The video then skips ahead to my flight two days later on June 21, 2011. Visibility was not great this day due to some bad haze even though reports were clear. You will see a shaky shot of the lighthouse at Caswell Beach and then skip ahead to my return from the Myrtle Beach, SC area. By this time the haze had gotten much worse and even at 1000ft MSL visibility was lacking and I had to constantly scan the sky for traffic, more than normal. The video ends with me landing on runway 5 back at KSUT.

KSUT was a great airport. It has sky diving on the field which keeps it pretty busy, but it was neat to see some skydivers descending back to the airport when making an approach. The thing I was most impressed with was the flight training and aircraft rental company based there, Brunswick Air. Both times that I scheduled the plane, they were on time, they asked me how much fuel I wanted and filled up the plane accordingly and they even cleaned the windshield. Overall, they were very friendly and professional. It's an atmosphere that makes me want to go back the next time I'm in the area and it's a place I could definitely recommend to anyone looking for flight training or aircraft rentals.
