Program Description

Hard as it is to swallow, cutting-edge theories are suggesting that our universe may not be the only universe. Instead, it may be just one of an infinite number of universes that make up the "multiverse." In this show, Brian Greene takes us on a tour of this brave new theory at the frontier of physics, showing what some of these alternate realities might be like. Some universes may be almost indistinguishable from our own; others may contain variations of all of us, where we exist but with different families, careers, and life stories. In still others, reality may be so radically different from ours as to be unrecognizable. Brian Greene reveals why this radical new picture of the cosmos is getting serious attention from scientists. It won't be easy to prove, but if it's right, our understanding of space, time, and our place in the universe will never be the same.

  • @MrDBarch but isn't much of science theories? because if that's the case then correct me if I'm wrong but, a theory is an idea or explanation not proven. That would mean that faith which is blind belief is required in order to uphold what you claim to be fact. You cannot argue that.

  • @SwaggerKing22 theories and hypothesis are two different creatures. I'd suggest what all of the FOTC series talks about are hypothesis... for the most part. As for what MrDBarch is talking about, Religion, I'd say it's more an extrapolation than either a hypothesis or theory. XD

  • The only compliant I have is the volume is so damn low

  • @eddiebmx Is the volume knob on your computer and-or speakers busted? ;c)

  • @Rizzy55 Just as you appear to think this is Rhetoric, I see the same thing in the words you've typed. But for all those famous world travelers who've gone before us, we'd likely still believe the world to be flat.

Sure, any person could dismiss anything in [less than] 3 seconds but, others may call them narrow-minded fools. *cough cough*

But, I get your point. It's clear as day.

  • but how was the multierse created and are there other multyverses?

  • ahhhhhh. God is great.

  • @skillzflux OK I see your point.BUT.We talk here, about infinite number of possible ways...I reccomend to you to watch the lecture from Lawrence Krauss called "A Universe From Nothing"and dont miss final questions from audience! It's on Youtube. You will see that any questions about parents or anything else are in this case, irrelevant.Again, there is no need for copies in "other" universes even if infinitly small change is made in "original" universe.

  • @zvolencan77 Trust me, I do understand... you can reverse this and instead of focusing on my theoretical offspring, we could talk about about my parents and put them in different situations with different aptitudes... and this would make me non-existent. The very small probability of my parents meeting would be altered by their acting and being different hence making a copy of me less likely. The smallest derivation stretched over a long distance or period of time offsets things dramatically

  • @1TheLoneWolf1

Yes, but if you take all the possible information about any possible system able to be described by math and then place it in a 10 dimensional all encompassing point, you can say this point is unobservable because any attempt at doing so would only show you one of the possible solutions acting in the lower dimensions.

This point exist in timelessness and take it however you want but some might say we then would live inside of god, which is just information.

  • @100chao

Which ultimately shows everyone that you know absolutely nothing and that you haven't listened at all.

  • @MrDBarch

Call it hyperspace or quantumspace or whatever you want... but as you saw, it is not empty. It is full of energy condensing and discharging in big bangs into universes.

And really, there isn't anything preventing these universes from trying to float towards each other (gravity is not confined like the other forces), but the medium is eternally inflating (lots of dark energy) and thus pulls the universes away from one another.

  • @knowallcity

    See: "Black hole"

But really it is more like matter and energy create more space around them and then bend it than it stretching the space which is already there.

If space is "empty" space again the space is maintained by the zero-point energies visualized as virtual particles.

  • @z5i Why? Is English not working out so well for you? ;)
